March 29, 2013

December 7th 1941, Pearl Harbor was the start of World War II for the United States. Mal Middlesworth was an active Marine stationed on the U.S.S. San Francisco, which was moored to a pier in Pearl Harbor.

On March 14th, at the Upland Masonic Center, Lodge, Eastern Star, DeMolay, Rainbow members and their families and friends were blessed with a wonderful historical presentation on Pearl Harbor and the Pacific Theater by Mr. Mal Middlesworth. Following Mal’s presentation everyone retired to the dining room for refreshments and a chance to visit one on one with Mal.

Mal told us about what led up to and the day of December 7th 1941. He told us about battles that took place after Pearl Harbor that he had be involved with: Wake Island, Midway, Samoa, Gilbert, Marshalls Solomon islands, participating in landings and capturing of Guadalcanal, Cape Esperance, Attu, Kiska, and Wilkes.

Mal was wounded during a battle and then returned to duty. On April 1st 1944 Mal married JoJean Ciraulo and celebrated their 68th anniversary in 2012.

Mal has served as National President and Vice President of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association (PHSA) for many years. He also has served as Editor/Publisher of the Pearl Harbor Gram, a news paper for the PHSA.
